This is the 2012 Civic for Latin American Markets.
It is for sale in Argentina and Brasil, may be other markets too.
Car is positioned at a higher market level, with a higher price, of course.
Comes with projector beam headlights, different tail lights and, better quality interior materials, paddle shifter for the -rare for those markets- automatic transmission and other upgrades.

Not a bad theory at all.

I like the small change to the taillights. It makes sense too because the turnaround is so quick they'd want to leverage any resource they already had (like these Latin market Civics) to help that timeline (and keep costs down on an MMC).

I like the tailights too! Quick & easy fix!
Unfortunately I don't see the spy shot showing this kinda of trunk lid.

Also there is no way the US is getting those projector lights.

Can someone point out how this is different from what we already have?

I have to finally say, that as a previous Civic owner (93 EX Coupe), I hate this (last gen and current gen) design language. Did they at least get rid of that stupid dual dash design?

This is pretty much what I guessed it should have... but it begs the question as to why they need to bother with this camo thing at all. Usually a bunch of tapes means they're testing something, right?

If Honda introduced it as a '13 model with these changes taken from other markets, which should ALREADY be proven and tested, taping up another Civic seems unnecessary.

Given that this car looks to be identical externally, wouldn't it be easier to hide it in plain sight with no camo at all to draw the eye?

Well, Honda has to move out all '12s form inventory before showing the '13 off. That would be enough reason to hide mods with tape...

That's assuming the changes are significant. You do have a point though. If it had reflectors on the trunk lid that would have been a dead giveaway.

The taillights are the SAME. It's just that everywhere else in the world they require rear fog light. That's what those lights on the trunk lid are for.

No, all that sticker improve the aerodynamics.. that car is being used to test the fuel economy.

Or, some guy reversed and hit something and now he has to tape his taillight back to the car otherwise it might fall off

Am Honda wont give the US Civic projector beams--- my bet. I do think your vid has something closer to what we'll see... some blackout headlight area to accentuate different lights...like the treatment the Fit received this year. That and some changes to the bumper covers front and rear. Rear taillights look like Toyota made em, so I'm hoping a slight change is in store there. It also REALLY needs is a complete change in the grill/trim piece between the headlights. I doubt it'll be what we saw from Australia.

Plumablanca, thanks for the link.

Isn't it amazing what the color black does for automobile? It masks a multitude of aesthetic sins.

I also like the alloys available in Latin America, too. Less frenetic than those on the current Si.

Again, thanks for the link. Hope springs eternal.

You are welcome Mechanic.
As good as they look, Super TC2000 race cars are far away from production. This category started many years ago in Argentina, and thanks to Factory involvement and Strong Sponsorships, today has the more powerful FWD race cars available. For 2012, all cars have the Radical Performace Engine, a V8 with 408 based in to Suzuki Hayabusas blocks put together forming a V. It is matched to a fully secuential gerabox with paddle shifters similar to those in GP2.
Noise is pretty much like a F1 engine. More info here:

Here is a Honda Factory Team Video from last month TC2000 Race in the streets of Buenos Aires.

I'm really surprised that Honda has entered this latest iteration of South American Touring Car racing? The car is no more a Civic than a Nascar Chevrolet. At least the Nascar Chevy has a Chevy motor! Oh the dumbing down of motorsport to ensure entertainment :(

A spaceframed, Suzuki engined race car masquerading as a Honda Civic :(

What next??

You are right, sadlerau.
It has happened with Moto2, Moto3 and probably with MotoGP in the future. There is even a proposal from Bernie Ecclestone to unify the engines in Formula 1... that would be the end.
Regarding this Super Touring ( TC2000 ), they start from a Honda Civic compact, actually the roof, Floor, Pillars and window frames must be stock. The new regulation mandates that all engines and transmissions have to be the same, they come from England sealed and they have to go thru Technical inspections if seals are broken due to failures.
Most Manufacturers are involved, Live TV coverage brings sponsors in,and the addition of street circuits made this category very popular in Argentina and Brasil.

I thought I knew most of the higher end formula racing Honda is involved in, but I had not heard of this series. Too bad, because it looks like it was a fun series. The new spec V8 is a neat piece, but it sure does decrease the value to the constructors.

And to the post above, a "Chevy" V8 in Nascar is as much a Chevy as the motor in the "Ford" sitting next to it on the grid... if Nascar had a grid... Those engines no longer bare any commonality with a production engine.
