I assume that the US market 2013/14 Corolla will have better styling, but this new JDM version looks so dated already.

It is designed to 'attract' those interested in the Corolla.

I think it looks ok, interior is cleanly styled. Boy, check out the Century. Now THAT'S a vehicle.

Not so great. That said, I'd be very surprised if this model we are getting. Something about the Axio seems more like a JDM spin-off of the Corolla theme - like the Matrix.
Anxious to see it!

yeah I doubt this is the US market Corolla. It looks to be about as much "Corolla" as the Supra was "Celica".

Anyhow, it looks like they've been hitting the snooze button in Toyota City too for the past couple years. Honda's been snoring in the other room.

JDM Axio is a different car than the rest-of-the-world Corolla sedan, but it's not too different either.

Here's the previous gen Axio (2008 - 2012), still pretty 'similar' with our Corolla, only a bit smaller. I guess they use the same body frame.

You guys have to keep in mind that the demographic buying cheap entry level sedans in Japan (old people that doesn't want to spend much on a car but still venerates the good-old sedan shape) may not be the same as in the US. Personally, I think this car keeps providing what its buyers are looking for.

To me, that new Axio still looks better than this:

Boring & generic doesn't even begin to describe this design--this is more like Valium on wheels. That said, I don't think it's dated; in fact, the design is so safe and plain vanilla that it could've been rolled out 20 yrs ago or 20 yrs from now and it will still not look out of place in either instance. As such, this design is actually rather timeless, but in a pulse-deadening way.

LOL if you believe the ad, any ad.

Believe it or not, it is said the redesigned vehicle is smaller for the convenience of its targeted customers, those seniors complained it was "too big to handle"!

LOL

Not to flatter myself, but it seems you have some sort of personal grievance against me. If I have offended your sensibilities, I apologize.

Please take a moment to consider contacting me privately if together we can put this aside and fraternally, move forward.

This car really reminds me of the old early 80s Corollas. Boring, cheap, box, and I don't know how to describe.

Well, as Dr. Whinner said, though maybe not with the due respect, I simply don't believe the ad is intended to portray the actual buyer. You are de design guy, but I do believe ads are intended to project an image that may be desirable or attractive to the buyer, not to necessarily impersonate him/herself. That said, I'd never seen such a guy driving a Corolla in Japan, and clearly don't think the latest iteration would do anything to change that.

I can't imagine that being the next US Corolla. It shares little or no design language with recent offerings, and looks downmarket, on par with the Versa. It would certainly be a sales failure.

I like the new Corolla. It's nice to finally see an upright windshield again. With the steeply raked windshield in the Civic you don't get any additional space from it, you just get a HUGE useless dash area.

This is the all new 11th-generation Corolla so I don't see how Japan would get one version and the rest of the world gets a completely different version. If you look at past generations of the Corolla everyone around the world got the same Corolla but with some very slight market specific variations. The interior looks very nice. I hope the 10th-gen Civic goes back completely to analog gauges.
