2013 Acura ILX: Car Seat Check
For 2013, Acura introduced an all-new compact sedan, the ILX, that's based on a modified 2012 Honda Civic. Like the Civic, the ILX seats five, and even though its backseat is surprisingly roomy, it holds only two child-safety seats. This entry-level car has a starting MSRP of $26,795, including an $895 destination fee.

Thank you for this. Good link, good to know.
Looks like it has the same room as the Civic, which seems to be best in class. Maybe the Jetta has the same, but I haven't put a carseat in one.

Does that mean there isn't a LATCH for the middle of the back seat? We have a 2 year old and put him in the middle of our 2007 CR-V. I'm thinking of getting the ILX and like to have the carseat in the middle instead of the sides.

So few cars have a LATCH for the middle seat. Federal law states they must have at least 2, so generally the outboard ones are chosen. Personally, I have the child seat in the center using the seat belt as well. It's a safer position then the outboard and using the seatbelt is just as secure (just a bit more difficult).

The best I can speak to the center position is that a normal sized adult will not have nearly enough headroom. And you may know that Jeff was unable to on either outboard position without his head against the headliner. He'd need another 1.5" of space to clear it.
In the center position, there's enough "arch" to the padding that a rear facing child seat might never sit flat and secure enough that you'd confident that there would be significant "rocking" from side to side.
I'm not trying to paint a bad picture, but putting your weight on to the child seat enough to really push it down and get that belt tight (if you could even maneuver in to do it) could be a real challenge. And it appears the child seat might not clear the front seatbacks.
For sure you'd need a seat protector so the rough edges of the child seat base don't destroy the seating surface.
Coming from a guy with 2 kids...
