So I have had my '08 TL going on 4 yrs now and the OEM Michelin tires with 40K miles are about ready for replacement. I am looking for a max performance summer tire (since I live in SoCal not worried about ice...) What recommendations out there?

In our 04 ( I know.. I know...) we successfullly replaced the stock BS EL42s for BS RE750s.
They transformed the car... tenacious grip, great road feel, sharp steering and a good ride too...
However, they only lasted 18K miles.
Costco is once again carrying Bridgestone and they have a recurrent $70 off a set of four... I believe the current ones are the RE790s.

I am looking at these tires Tony... Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position @ $169 each @ Tire Rack. I bought tires before for the CRV @ Tire Rack and had them the following day. Great place to buy from.

I just put the Michelin Pilot SuperSports on my Infiniti. Awesome tires. You're probably going to spend $200+/tire, but the grip is absolutely incredible. Ride, noise and fuel economy are about the same as the Bridgestone RE050A that were OEM fitment, but grip at launch, under braking and in cornering is substantially better. I used to register grip in the 0.90-0.92g range on the stock tires in corners and about 0.98g under braking. With these new tires, 1.02-1.04g in the corners and 1.05-1.10g under braking.
Best of all? They have a 30k mile treadwear warranty which is unprecedented for a max performance tire.
Oh yeah, they're incredible in the wet too.

I replaced my crappy oem all season on my Si with Michelin Pilot SuperSports and it was like night and day with the handling, probably the best tires I have ever had on any vehicle. The grip, cornering, wet handling, and braking are incredible. And the 30k Treadwear warranty is unheard of in a max performance summer tire. I hated swapping my winter rims and winter tires last winter, and was surprised how much i missed the tires when I put them back on over a month ago

Just got back after having the OEM Michelins replaced. OMG, If I would have known how much difference changing the tires out, probably would have done this sooner. I settled on the Bridgestone Potenza RE970 Pole Position tires. Thanks Sean and others for the Michelin recommendations, but I am happy that I ended up buying these instead. Treadwear rating was higher, and price was $150 cheaper than Michelin.
If anyone that owns a TL, is looking for tires these are highly recommended.
