Don't know about other dealerships, but I am at the largest dealer in Texas. From today's Vehicle Status Report: 616 models on hand, of those 616 new cars, 1 (as in one) Fit on the ground.
We have 9 in transit for the month of May. Compare that to 172 Civics on the gound and 32 in transit for the next 10 days.

That factory is years away from completing its construction, and even further from building its first car.

2 manuals in stock, about eight autos - none in shipment - as opposed to 120 plus civics. I don't think Honda is very interested in selling them. Never in history has such a brilliant, class leading car been so undersold and under-appreciated.

Bingo! Your're right. Honda is not interested in selling the current Japanese made Fit in the US. The $$/yen ratio causes them to lose money on every one sold. They can build Civics here for less money and sell them for more. It's a no-brainer.
The only reason they sell any of them is as a marketing place holder for when the Mexico built Fit comes on line.
Another factor is that Fit (and Jazz) manufacturing capacity needs to be sent to markets where cars in that size category are best sellers, and are generally priced higher.

Agree completely. It feels like Am Honda is running out the clock til Mexican assembly. I think thats a mistake. The Fit (above all others) seems like the model where a higher trim level AND greater availability would storm the market. But it also needs some updating, including a better dash/interior and some mild exterior refreshening that the MMC didn't accomplish particularly well.

I've been posting about this for a while (though typically nobody is interested here), but Honda in Japan is struggling to meet internal demand which is reaching nearly a decade high on hybrids demand.
http://vtec.net/forums/one-message?message_id=1040113
Now, with the current JPYUSD rate and domestic demand beating records while production has rocketed to unprecedented levels in the past few years, nobody should really expect Honda to bring many cars from Japan..., even less so the Fit which is their Japanese best seller and also the cheapest car in their US lineup.
And even less so with increased US production capacity and several grand new models coming down the pipe...
Hope that helped.
