Jesse and I were talking about the 5D and a few comments came up that I thought my be worth sharing...
Thanks, everyone, for the feedback on the ILX. This was another fun "what if?" trying to "amortize" costs and make the most of the platform.
Though some are associating this 5 door with the CrossTour, I honestly don't see the visual connection other than the number of doors. Sometimes people make connections to perhaps help them process the idea as something else they may already be familiar with - along with their like or dislike - and that can influence the consideration a new concept.
As for time putting this one together, I think it was about 5 hours or so. I already had the hatch elements from a Civic 5 door I made some time ago, so it was pretty easy to overlay those parts. I had to subtract the blue from the acura.com image so I could see, match and blend the grays, only to re-color the composite at the end. (Still wouldn't have been able to do that if Jesse never shared his red NSX with me!)
I agree that the rear wiper can look like an afterthought. Looking at it removed seemed to diminish the reading that it is a hatch, because there's not much difference in the angle of the rear glass. That, plus the rear spoiler, seemed to help push the departure from the sedan look, and the aero-wheels from the China concept sedan helped with further distancing. They're a new look I don't recall seeing before with Honda wheels. And again, more separation from the stock wheels. Then adding the sky and street as I've been doing to create a sort of environment.
The rest was just fixing and touching up little details here and there, adding some vibrancy to the blue, and lots of squinting.
Early last week I started a revised Accord sedan concept based on the one I made in January using the Accord coupe concept from NAIAS. This new image uses the roof from the China car. It was taking too long for the time I had, so I put it aside to do the quicker ILX. I might finish that one later this coming weekend.

I wasn't in tune with the looks like a crosstour idea either. The ZDX has the same number of doors and general shape.
So did the 1987 Chevy Nova I got fresh out of college.
The 5dr hatchback style is very European/ROW approach to creating a practical car within the smallest dimensions. Being able to throw down the rear seats and get that piece of furniture in for the run across town, then put them back up and head out with friends is exactly the kind of practical multi tasking a car of this size needs to have.
And exactly what the reason Corolla sized sedans just don't make sense.

How about a coupe based on this platform?
It's an opportunity Honda/Acura needs to grab quickly.
2.4, SH-AWD, 6MT, LSD...

The Crosstour doesn't have a sedan-like rear - which is why I don't see any profile similarities between Neal's concept and the Crosstour. For me, they are worlds apart - even putting aside Crosstour's still ugly looking front-end.
If given the choice, I would choose a 5-D version over a sedan - because it is more practical. I do wonder if it is expensive to develop this ILX derivative that Neal made. IMO, I don't think it is expensive. It might be even more popular than the sedan.
