Is the new Rdx motor premium fuel only? I have a 2010 Honda Cross Tour with the V6 and cylinder management and it makes 271 hp on regular fuel, only 2 hp difference from the Acura. I assume it's the same motor.

I was told in that you can run regular unleaded all day long in the new 2013 RDX, with no noticeable penalty in terms of mileage or performance, and more importantly, no risk of damaging the engine long term.
This is different from past Acuras - where premium is "required", and even a little different from the 2011-2012 TSX which now lists it as "recommended". It's my understanding that the TSX really needs premium, but you can "get by" with unleaded. But the way it was phrased to me made it sound like there *could* be some long term implications. There might not be, but there is some risk.
In the 2013 RDX, supposedly no such risk.

Maybe it's just a case of CYA, but the official Acura RDX sales brochure under "FEATURES + SPECIFICATIONS" says Premuim Unleaded 91 octane is the "Recommended Fuel", with a footnote that says "Using gasoline with an octane lower than 91 may cause damage to the engine." Anyone know what the Owner's Manual states?

Really looks like the same drive train as my Honda crosstour 4wd, withe the extra 2 hp on the Rdx attributable to the savings of adding electric power steering. The Honda recommends regular fuel, but my seat of the pants feeling is it pulls a full throttle to red line stronger with premium fuel. Is premiumum fuel,in the Acura just a marketing decision to set it apart from the honda?

The owners manual states that 91 or higher is recommended.
Anything above 87 is OK but it will effect performance/mpg.
Anything less than 87 will cause damage.

I filled up the TSX yesterday for the first time. It took 14.5 gallons and the premium was 20 cents more per gallon than the regular, so that was $2.90 extra. I'm not going to sweat $3 per tank when on average I will fill it twice a month at most.

Acura said to me yesterday the RDX is absolutely fine on regular - same engine as Accord. It needs premium as much as an Accord does. ie not. Some weird marketing decision, or to prevent cross model confusion and some numskull at the dealership putting regular in those Acuras that do really need it.
