I am finely taking the plunge. I am having a 400 watt 4 chan. amp put in with 4 new JVC speakers. The rear speakers are different then a regular Civic, so they are going to cut. I have a Pioneer Navi top level system, but never put in speakers or power to use all the stuff the system had to offer......so I decided to spend a few bucks, well more then that, and make it sound better. I am having Dyno Mat put in too. I drive 20,000 miles a year, so I spend a lot of time in my car........
The only complaint I have is the Bluetooth sucks in that Pioneer. The person on the other end says I sound like I am in a wind tunnel talking on a TIN CAN.......It hisses and echos......any thoughts on that?

The pioneer systems in my old GTI and in the Jetta work really well - I'll ask my son what he thinks. echos would seem to mean echo cancellation is somehow off? he just put a slmiline sub in the jetta with an amp and have to say it improves the sound markedly - we have it turned right down, so its not a boom boom thing - just helps the sound along and makes the system go louder cleaner, presumably as the hard work of all the low frequency stuff is being done elsewhere. One of our guys put a kenwood navi system in his HCH even with a back up camera - he just sold the car - can't remember what he bought.
Pics please when done!

does your head unit use a remote mic for the bluetooth? If so, where is it mounted? If not, and it uses some little thing built into the head unit, that could also make a big difference.

It is an external mic located on the upper "Map Light" rim in the middle behind the windshield. It is an obvious mic, it sticks out like one you would wear on an interview clipped to your lapel. It's movable/pivots.

I went with 900 watts......and Cerwin-Vega HED speakers........I listened to all the speakers they had and for some reason, in the speaker room, these sounded the best...They had all brands....I never really heard of them in car audio, I know they have been around for a long time, but I thought they only made home stuff........The base is really nice and all the sounds are crisp.....I am just terrible at adjusting all the EQ adjustments on my system......any tips?

Andrew, does this mean you will have one of those cars that shakes at stoplights, and everybody is trying to figure out where all the sound is coming from?

Re adjusting Eq - the better the system the less it is needed. Most decent home systems don't even have any Eq adjustments. Problem in cars is that the acoustics and speaker placements are so variable something might be needed. I detest those overpowering subs - apart from sounding awful - you have to question the behind it all, or lack of. Just there to bother other people. My son has just put a sub in his jetta and turned way down it really improves the sound - now that the standard speakers don't have the hard work of producing low notes. To set it up I'd just use some nice CDs or MP3s - ie music you like that you know sounds good at home - and see how close you can get to that in your car. Assuming you have a nice home system!
Some cheaper systems benefit from massive tonal adjustment, and some don't sound good no matter what you do (current accords). I actually reckon the Fit's basic system is more tolerable - but that's just me.

Would you believe I had 8 x 12" subwoofers in a 1987 Prelude?

WOW!........I remember back in 1981, my buddy had a 79 Prelude and he hooked Bose 901's to it.....that thing thumped........
I have no SUB in mine, I just like the sound in the car, I don't go over board, but my Pioneer Navi unit has all these adjustments and options, it has "Sound Stage, Living room, Concert Hall".........plus you can adjust all the levels individually........so that is where I get all confused and some songs are recorded different, and the more compressed they are the worse they sound........Really, nothing sounds better then a Record, then a CD, once you go to an iPod or phone......it's so compressed it takes a lot away........They are now making TUBE iPod docks to decompress the music so you can hear what we are missing........these kids today have no idea what a record sounds like like I did when I was growing up in the70's........
