1st Place: 2012 Hyundai Sonata GLS
For the money, you won't find a better compromise of space, efficiency and everyday functionality in a family sedan; plus, it's the quickest car in this test.
2nd Place: 2012 Toyota Camry SE
It's quiet and comfortable in the usual Camry way, but this SE also offers respectable handling and a dash of style. It gets pricey if you don't keep a lid on the options, though.
3rd Place (tie): 2012 Honda Accord EX
The Accord is the driver's car of the group, with a liveliness to its steering and throttle response not found in the others. But the cabin looks dated and Bluetooth is MIA.
3rd Place (tie): 2012 Volkswagen Passat 2.5 SE
The VW offers a superb ride and an upscale cabin with lots of legroom. A lousy throttle calibration compromises drivability, though, and EPA ratings are subpar.
5th Place: 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco 2SA
It's a huge improvement over the old Malibu, but the Eco model is pricey, with a small trunk and sluggish acceleration. A tight backseat doesn't help either.
I find this comparo quite opposite of the recent C&D comparison.

Interesting isnt it Froggie?
Try to find some reliability data.. then buy the car you like.
Car magazines are more in the realm of entertainment than useful information. Their opinion isn't much more expert than your own.

Interesting for sure! Seems like there's a review for everyone out there to justify or refute an "opinion" either way. While we'll all have our personal opinions, do do like to think that these major pubs carry and hope to maintain a broader validity and respectability. Hard to say nowadays.
They're all fine cars. Buy what appeals to your senses and enjoy it!
That said, the next Accord better be darn good because I'd like to get one... ;-)

The next accord is sure to have dumbed down steering - the current model will be the last of the hydraulic systems...EPS must be cheaper to use and of course offers all sorts of nannying capability - all of which means the deaths door to hydraulic. We are faced with CVT, fewer manual options and lifeless EPS - whose definition of driving enjoyment is this?
Shame the Optima wasn't there - much nicer than the Sonata.

While I agree that the Optima is a nicer looking package, feedback from Australian motoring press is that it is not as good as the Sonata dynamically. Which is faint praise indeed!
