Part of your issue is that you're comparing the TSX to the S2000. When I swapped between my '04 and the S2000 on a daily basis the TSX always felt like a 1992 Lincoln Town Car after a couple of days in the S.

Ehhhh, now that I DD the S2000 again, for now at least, driving the Accord is absolute misery. The EX 4 cyl Accords are always said to be the sportiest of the mainstream mid-sized sedans, and they make any TSX feel like a go-cart.

So, the moral of this story is that if you want to feel sporty in your TSX, drive an Accord first.

Thanks... you guys are making my life an absolute automotive misery now.

We decided that the TSX is too much... so we figured on a Civic. If we lose the CRV-V then we'll need a bigger car (actually two) so I was thinking of the Accord EX V6 and a Fit.

Now you tell me that it's a boat?

Well... let me go get on the freeway onramp behind my office... and FEEL the power of the hybrid.

Depressing day. And its' payday -I think- and still depressing.

As the tires wear out on mine 1 year old car, I am getting more and more annoyed with the steering on mine. I already tried 2 realignments and still annoyed and missing the old Honda steering feel. Seems like the electric steering with worn tire make things much worse at least on mine.

funny you say that...

I was just admiring my 2001 Accord coupe ex v6 lowered on H&R's springs and KYB shocks steering feel today while super smooth cruising at 140km/h TODAY!!! I dunno why it hit me today how awesome it is. I even shook the car left right left right really fast and it was stable but at 90 not 140. lol. A nice weighted feel...yet not too heavy...smooth and direct.

Pretty amazing for 11 yr old car. If the accord was quieter it would be the perfect car cuz a clean double din 7in screen gave it all the tech modern cars have and more.

I ended up buying a 2012 TSX Sportwagon Tech today - Bellanova White Pearl with the taupe interior. I traded my beloved Si for it. I had been feeling guilty for a while, having an S2000 and my Si at my daily disposal while my lovely wife was stuck driving the Odyssey every day. Part of it was her own fault, yes, as she has long refused to learn how to properly drive a car with a manual transmission. But still, I always felt a little bit guilty.

I have loved the TSX Sportwagon since the day I first saw it as the Accord Tourer, what, 4 years ago? Ideally, it would have come over with the Type S suspension and a 6MT, and I just would have forced my wife to accept driving a 6MT, but unfortunately, it wasn't to be.

Our Odyssey is in good condition, drives great, and we can't live without its utility (for a while). So, for now I'm happy with the compromise that I've engineered. My wife gets to drive a shiny fancy new Acura to work if she wants to, we get to keep our incredibly useful Odyssey, and sadly, I lose my Si sedan. (After 52 months, it had 29750 miles on it, so it's not like I was driving the wheels off of it.)

Honestly, I would have just done the TSX sedan for $2k less but the extra utility of the cargo area (which means our dog can go more places with us without requiring firing up the Odyssey) and the semi-uniqueness of the Sportwagon made the extra expense worth it to me.

I got it for right at invoice, and at that price I got the all season floor mats, the cargo area mat, body-color matched splashguards, and wheel locks.

Incidentally I drove my wife to and from work today since I needed her Odyssey to move some furniture from my office. I went to pick her up in the new TSX Sportwagon and on the 20 mile loop I averaged 33.5 mpg. Not bad...

Congratulations.

I remember your biggest gripe about the TSX was its steering feel. Did it improve in the wagon or you're just willing to live with it?

what i've found is that the steering in TSXs bugs me the most for the first few days I'm driving them. That makes perfect sense - and is just how i am with my TSX - the steering is tight and well weighted, the car turns in really well for FWD, but whenever I get in a car with a nice hydraulically assisted system (an accord even) it feels so much more connected to the road. Not that anything else in the Accord is as good. EPS is the way everything is going and we are just going to have to get used to it. I do wonder if mazda's electrically powered hydraulic system is the best of both worlds.

Congrats Jeff - its a shame we don't get the wagon in Canada - and strange too as generally Canadians are more pro-wagon.

The "0 down" lease deal here was $360/mo for a base TSX Sport wagon. For a Tech model I was quoted $461/month for a zero-down lease. It made no sense to me so I just bought it.

Buying the tech package, which I'm probably going to do, is like flushing $3500 down the toilet, but a base model TSXW that is maybe a $30k car will still be worth $20k in 5 years. You might as well buy, when you sell it you will have people fighting each other to buy it.

Unless you want one of the shitty Jetta wagons or a lesbian Subaru, it's pretty much the only game in town.

Jeff, congrats on the TSX! We're loving our '10 base sedan (I mean, I'm loving mine - my wife gets the Crosstour, which is a great car in its own right). The steering is fine with me, as the highlight for me is the excellent responsive handling. The 4 cyl. is adequate for me, though my wife prefers the V6 in her CT for smoothness.

Tempting for us, though, is the new RDX. My wife and I would have to arm-wrestle over which car would have to go, and she's pretty strong. ;-)

Tech package? That would be a $7.00 Rand McNally Road Atlas and a smart phone.

Mazda's component is a compromise at best. In fact you can argue that there's two levels of energy conversion and transfer rather than just the one... the FE benefits probably aren't as great as just regular EPS... maybe not even any better than hydraulic steering

course its bs. Why would they make zero on a car and sell it for what they bought it for. Its to trick americans. Real invoice is probably 2-5000 under the invoice.

the invoice numbers are real. There are sometimes factory to dealer incentives - I hear there's about $400 on the hood of Civics right now - I don't know what, if any money is on the hood of the TSX. On top of that there is a 2-3% "holdback" that the dealers get after selling each vehicle. So if a car stickers for $35k, they would get an additional $700-1000. They definitely aren't making $2-5k on a car sold at "invoice", though.

Invoice for the '12 TSX Sportwagon with tech is listed at $32,884 - the destination fee is $895 so the total "invoice" price is $33,779. I paid $33,695, plus they threw in the all season mats, wheel locks, splashguards and the cargo tray. Oh, I also paid $300 for the ceramic tint. They wanted $400 but I said I'd take it for $300 and the finance guy said "ok". It is getting tinted right now, in fact.

Another dealer I checked offered $33,500, which is a fantastic price, but their used car guy offered $1500 less on my trade.

Also, some of you may remember me saying how popular TSX sportwagons are in my area (I saw 2 different black ones within 5 minutes of each other yesterday, and neither of them were the one that lives down the street from me). The guy I bought mine from said the sportwagon has surprised everybody at his dealership - they have been selling really well, so well that they don't get enough of them from Acura so they have been buying allocations from other smaller market Acura dealers.

Those are roughly the same numbers I'm getting. I don't see how you could possibly not buy that car at that price.

Is it just me or are Acura salespeople about 250% better than ordinary car salespeople? People generally annoy me but Acura people are generally pleasant.

Goddamn you Palmer for buying my car. Now I have to call my guy at Proctor Acura to talk numbers.

I think my mother wants the Accord, I'll sell it to her for trade-in value and ask for invoice on the TSXW + window tint + plus I want the dealer emblem and the "Acura" and "TSX" lettering on the back shaved. And no pinstripes for God's sakes.

I don't even know what "invoice" means anymore. I think it's BS.

course its bs.

The guy I worked with at my dealer was great, very straightforward and not at all pushy. He probably recognized that I didn't need to be pushed too hard, haha.

The only one I was going to consider was the tech package. and quite honestly, the dash on the non-navi TSX is just fugly. That cheap segmented LCD display just looks crude.
Gotta have the navi (and yeah, we all have smartphones in our house too - their navi systems are cool but inadequate) and I like the power liftgate and ELS audio system. I just wish the TSX had the more convenient keyless entry system like the ILX and RDX have. I don't give a damn about push to start, but I love just walking up to the locked car and have it automatically unlock for me as soon as I touch the door handle.

It would be really cool if i could set a route in google maps on my computer or phone and then somehow sync it with the route in the car's navi system.

To me, ELS is worth the upgrade all by itself.

It's really a spectacular system and the only system (except the Sony/ADS in my 85 Civic Si) where I will listen and enjoy music.

I'm too spoiled by my stereo systems.

I think the TSX wagon, BWP with tan interior, is it.

I honestly can't think of a better car to buy. It's replacing the Accord. It has the utility of an SUV and it gets decent gas mileage.

I sold my TSX and we both miss it. I'll keep driving the S2000, it only has 73k. The wagon is a cool car that that my wife can drive for 4 years or so and then I'll do it for another 4 years.

My only real question is about the tech package. I'm up in the air about that one.

Anyway, I'm kind of excited about the TSX wagon. I tend to gravitate to the weird cars that Honda makes from time to time. and think this is one I need to get in on.

Also, the resale on these cars is going to be absolutely insane.

Brgds

Go with the Tech pkg.....go with it all if you are going to keep it for 8 years.....in 8 years a lot of cars will have all that stuff as standard....

I see it that way, but I can look at the nav/audio system in an 8 year old car and it's more or less worthless. Who knows what ICE and cell phone tech will look like in 8 years, but I can assure you that an 8 year old car won't support it.

The $300 Alpine deck in my S2000 does everything the "upgraded" TSX ICE does.

Also, I bought lifetime updates for my Garmin for $99. Pretty sure Acura is gonna charge more than to update the nav, and that I won't be able to install updates by plugging into the USB port on my laptop.

OTOH, I do like the power tailgate, the rear camera and the way the nav screen looks. I don't care much about the upgraded stereo, my wife likes the Accord stereo and I listen to sports talk radio and podcasts 90% of the time anyway.

The fact the Navi controls the HAVC, Phone, Radio, CD, USB, and of course the Navi it's self........it blows any Garman away, life time updates or not, there is something to be said when you hit a button on the dash in a city you have never been to and ask it to find the nearest Indian restaurant, then it brings it up and you can call to make sure it is still in business all in one sweep......can't do that to a windshield sticker navi.......

I will never buy a car w/o Navi again, not that I get lost, I just like having the map there all the time in case I need to reroute........I drive 20K ++ a year, I go places all the time, and when there is a traffic jam, zooming out on command and looking what path to take is a breeze.......But hey, it's your car........It's a great car no matter which one you pick..........

I went to check out the RDX this past weekend (nice!) and also sat in a TSX. Had the V6 been available when I bought my Accord, I would have a TSX sedan ;-(.

How about a pic or two? No one ever post pics of their new rides.

Haven't had time to shoot a pic yet. I'm not going to be able to get any until next week. I'll put some up then.

Jeff,

Are you going to drop in an inch or so and put a set of polished black chrome rimes on it and tint the windows? I got a call today, that wasn't for your wagon? was it for a wagon for someone up here?

Buying the tech package, which I'm probably going to do, is like flushing $3500 down the toilet, but a base model TSXW that is maybe a $30k car will still be worth $20k in 5 years. You might as well buy, when you sell it you will have people fighting each other to buy it.

Unless you want one of the shitty Jetta wagons or a lesbian Subaru, it's pretty much the only game in town.

Tell me show shitty the Jetta wagons are. They offer a diesel, and manual transmission. Who else offers that?

And Subaru still has the only affordable AWD wagons with a manual.

There's also the 3 series wagon.

TSX wagons are nice. Fortunately there are a couple of options.
