Nissan/Infiniti should learn Mazda's design lesson - all these flowing lines don't make their cars look stylish. Their new vehicles simply look bulbous.

Mazda is the only Japanese car maker that now seems to get it. CX-5 and the concept for Mazda 6 are the best designs I have seen in the last 3 years coming out of the island of the rising sun. Everything else is forgettable.

What do I think? It looks awful.

The bulging front fenders and the straight line that goes over the door handles are overwrought. It'll suffer the same fate as the Mazda6, but I predict fleet sales will be brisk.

For all the criticism we see of Honda, I can't say I think Nissan is in much better shape. They are riding on the success of their V6 engines and RWD Infiniti platforms, but their mainstream stuff has aged very badly. If this Sentra is a harbinger of their future, I'm not very hopeful.

The GTR is certainly a technological showcase for Nissan: Twin-turbo V6, AWD, lots and lots of electronics. And yet, I don't get the sense that it has won the hearts of enthusiast drivers in the same way that the NSX or S2000 did.

Sometimes I wonder if people found the GTR too heavy, too powerful, and too easy to drive.

There is something much more visceral, raw, and satisfying about a lightweight automobile with a manual transmission and and engine that is at its best when wrung out to redline. It's not just about how fast the car goes. I truly believe that the fun of driving is in developing a connection with the vehicle and honing the skills to drive it like few others can. I can sense in the automotive press a much more gleeful enthusiasm for the modestly powered, priced and featured BRZ/FR-S.

The point I tried to make with my prev short post(unsuccessfully) is that, after the arrival of GTR, Nissan got significant boost in public perception, sales and many manufactures & as well as high-end manufacturer began taking them seriously. Before GTR, Nissan was nothing compare to Honda, now look where they stand.
Imagine if Honda didnt cancelled HSC development, FR chassis, road V8 etc. Only if..........i think u get the idea.

I rarely hear anyone mention the GT-R as a vehicle they aspire to own though. And I really doubt that the GT-R convinced people to go to the showroom and buy the Altima (mediocre) or Versa (utter junk).

My opinion is the same as Jeff on this one. The GT-R is not a vehicle that has any Honda-ness. It's a fascinating piece of technology, but I don't find the concept or implementation particularly enticing.

I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE the GT-R and its soul! I love its heritage, and lineage! TURBO V6's sticking to their roots to destroy super-cars!

On paper it doesn't look that impressive.

The GT-R can kill the new 911 Turbo S. HOW?

Both have 530hp. YAY?
Both AWD turbo 6!
Both twin clutch auto's.

GT-R almost half the price...half in Canada.

Same car? Nah...when you look at the details the Porsche should win every every every time. Yet it loses.

GT-R shifts in 200 millisec, while the Porsche PDK in 8 milli

0-60 3.5 vs porsche 3.3.

GT-R is 300lbs heavier. OUCH! Thats fat!

Some may call it the devil, others call it ATTESA E-TS. This top secret AWD is the game changer.

Nissan finally gave us the GT-R!! I would take a lightly used GT-R in canada for 70,000 over a 335i with a couple packages any day. GT-R is also the only Automatic car I'd ever own ever.

The GT-R is really ONLY a halo car at this point. With a price inflated to $100k it's almost directly competing with the Corvette ZR-1 now.

It might have influenced sales of the Altima and Sentra... although you'd have to feel sorry for those owners to be frank.

Nissan's revival started back in the early 2000's when Carlos Ghosn revamped the entire line-up, which was well before the GTR was even a rumour. Did the GTR's arrival further pushed up sales of the Altima & Sentra? Maybe, maybe not, but what is certain was that at least the Altima was already a strong sales performer on its own well before the GTR arrived.

Besides I think the GTR's alleged halo effect is a dubious one when we're talking about selling mainstream volume cars. The Civic, Corolla, Accord, Camry, Odyssey and Sienna all became leaders in their respect categories without the benefit of a halo car under either the Honda or Toyota brands. The halo effect would be more applicable on the luxury side of things.

At the end of the day the compact car segment is overcrowded and cutthroat competitive. For the Sentra to sell well it will have to stand on its own merits in terms of price, features, fuel economy, reliability. Looks and the GTR may have a little bit of influence but when the majority of car buyers in this segment are looking at these cars as appliances rather than status symbols, I highly doubt this influence, if existent, would be material.
