Does anyone have access to the original article? I'm not sure what this stmt in the Forbes article meant by 'other' China auto manufacturers.
"The article, datelined Beijing, reports that Honda has decided to transfer its basic hybrid vehicle (HV) technology, not just to its joint-venture partner Dong Feng Motors, but also to other China auto manufacturers."

The original article is not very long. It basically states that Honda has changed its tune regarding sharing technologies and that the will in fact share its IMA system with other Chinese companies for use in China. It would likely start with the two joint ventures and then others. Honda is doing this to gain ground in China but I also have a feeling that the IMA system will be replaced with the new generation in the next few month's anyways. So, basically it will be old technology IMA that they will be sharing and leaving the new stuff for the rest of the developed countries.

Will anyone else want it, as it doesn't work as well as the Toyota system??

Toyota's system is far more complex and expensive. China doesn't need that. Honda's system can basically be retrofitted in existing Chinese cars with almost no development costs and since they don't have the expertise, it makes a lot more since. This will be a turn key opportunity for them.

I think it is a good decision, in my opinion. The Chinese car factories will find a way to lower the costs so much that everyone in China will be driving one within 3 years, and (hopefully) Honda takes the royalties for it, lol

Gotta love Chinese business. You can either give it to us (with gov't blessing and a small fee), or we'll just steal it and knock it off anyways.
It's hard but, after experiencing knock-offs and counterfeits of many products coming out of China the last few years (Hondata products being counterfeited is the latest), I'm doing my level best to avoid any goods made there. Means I'm going to have to dump my iphone for something else when the time comes to replace it. I'll miss it.

It is denied.
' Meanwhile, Ito said Honda had no current plans to share or sell its hybrid technology with Chinese automakers, denying a newspaper report a day earlier.
"We definitely want to make use of our strength in hybrid technology in China. I think the technology will be very successful eventually, but not just yet," he said.
"Our first priority is to add more compact models and increase our sales volumes. There's so much more to do (before producing hybrid cars locally in China)." ' http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/04/23/honda-china-idINDEE83M08D20120423

From a published report last year:
according to Honda's China chief:
- to launch five hybrids in 12
- will start to produce locally if sales meet projection;
- start from CKD; will push to localize to reduce cost;
- brace for coming new fuel economy standard in next few years;
- will share tech. if it helps.
