Thank you Jeff for the review.
35mpg on the 2.0 and 43mpg on the hybrid combined......amazing. It still puzzles me why Honda is so conservative with their EPA ratings.
For the 2.0 model, there's a huge difference between EPA 24/35/28mpg vs something like 30/40/35mpg.
Or for the hybrid, there's a huge difference between 39/38/38 vs 43/43/43.
When your real world combined figure is the same as the EPA hwy figure...that's way too conservative...

At least they won't get sued for it :>

haha yea ever since that Civic case, Honda has been WAY too conservative with their ratings....

The case has no bearing on that at all.

During my extended afternoon, I averaged 28.4 with mixed driving in the 2.4.

did you reset the odometer after I left? I know in the morning the car was idling a lot and experiencing lots of start/stop action.

^I did. I cleared it as I left the tent. I probably logged an additional 70 miles or so - 25 hwy.
I enjoyed the highway experience around 75-80 mph. The 2.4 was somewhat quieter than the Civic (but our highways here are top-notch smooth and "tuned" for less noise) with little wind noise. I felt confident that I could place and keep the car on course and weave through traffic and add some speed to keep in the clear air as needed.
To me, much more of an overall Si Sedan quality, circa 2011 model; so it's probably a good thing the 8th gens are no longer for sale...

I was kidding about the hybrid case..
HondAcura probably just went along with the EPA loop as required, and just so happens to get better real word economy with their current drivetrain settings. Doubt being "conservative" has got much to do with it. :>

How do these real-world numbers compare to the TSX's? Are these test models brand new and are still within their break-in period? Can we expect the mpg to improve as the mileage increases?

Those numbers are very good. Usually on "TEST" drives you see low numbers.

Jeff, when you were testing the ILX 2.0 and hybrid, did you mainly test them on windly, mountainous terrain, or flat, 2-lane hwy? Was there any aggressive driving involved? Are Honda trip computers in general accurate, or are they most of the time on the optimistic side like many other automakers?

Maybe it's the engineers talking.
When you spec a number for engineering, you have to be able to meet that number under all manufacturing variations, driver habits, environmental conditions, etc.
I'll bet many automakers quote the numbers with a "professional" driver under tailwind conditions and a specially selected car...
