I configured the Civic Sedan on Honda's website, added fog lights and the wing spoiler w/ LED third brake light, and it still was almost $1,000 LESS THAN the base price of the ILX. Here's the picture:
Doesn't look too bad. I'd buy it over the ILX. So much more features and I save at least a thousand dollars.
Opinions?

not so much more features...just navi and voice controls.
You are losing a lot by not going for ILX in the refined luxury department. HIDs, better interior by 500%, better exterior no super long windshield with A pillar BLIND SPOT, which all civics have because of its long raked back design....and the other stuff dont wanna list.

I would then spring for the ILX, because even with the Civic loaded up, the base ILX is the better car overall.
And again, we enter that realm of "better," larger vehicles available for similar money...

I find myself in a predicament of being completely underwhelmed by either choice.

I think you will be able to get 2000 dollar discounts ez on the ILX in USA and Canada. Eventually.

Of course it's cheaper. But I don't think Acura is selling to the person who would consider the civic as an option. I don't think Honda cares if you choose the civic. They make that too!

+1
they cover the the 15k to 30k spectrum with the CIVIC + ILX. Honda wins as long as you pick from within the family.

I really don't see the ILX as a version of the Civic as the CSX was.
Really the CSX, of which I own one, is a model configuration of the Civic which takes that car and offers it in the best trim version that was available in the Canadian market.
The ILX is an entirely different matter. It shares some parts with the Civic but it is a distinct product. When you have a different interior, different exterior, different driving dynamics, seriously, making a comparison based solely on price when comparably equipped is not a valid exercise. By that logic, one would have to question the very existence of Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Audi, Buick, i.e. any of the premium brands offered by the standard carmakers.
Building premium products based on the parts bin built up through building mass-market low-price offerings has been around for a long time. Without that process the price of lower-volume products would put them out of the reach of the average consumer.

A lot of people can't see or totally ignore this fact...unfortunately....
Guess we can't blame them. Acura had a long history of selling rebadged & glorified Honda's. It will take time to change their reputation.

It doesn't just share "some parts"--all the key components are the same. The only notable difference mechanically is reactive damping, but it's not a big upgrade. Same 2.4 engine, same fuel economy.
I need to keep shooting down this "but Acura is luxurious" defense just doesn't hold. No, it really isn't. The only reason the ILX interior is a noticeable upgrade is that they took a dump on the Civic's interior quality. Acura's never had great interiors.

Sugaki you just gotta keep coming on here to spew your twisted opinions as facts don't you?
"Acura's never had great interiors"
