Sorry for not buying the rumour mag where I read it, but there was really little of interest there other than the headline.
Actually, the thing looked pretty much real, and Honda is running out of time with the 2nd gen Fit, so if it comes it'll be before the summer.
What is a Fit RS Hybrid? Well, a Fit with the CR-Z powertrain, said to be available both in CVT and 6MT forms. And then is when I got screwed by Honda, because that is a car I would have kept for a decade if available when I landed in this country a couple of years ago …
PS: This rumor just follows past fall introduction of a JDM-exclusive Insight with the CR-Z drivetrain in CVT-only flavour. Question is, will the RS Hybrid get outside Japan?
PS2: With the addition of such car Honda would be offering as many hybrid variants of the Fit / FIt Shuttle as gas-only ones, and afaik that is a first for the industry. Are gas-only Fit days counted in Japan??

Wow.
So the 2nd Gen Fit is going to stay in production for a bit longer?

It makes sense and I believe some countries, like Malaysia, will fight for it. I have since learned that a lot really depends on the product people's perseverance and dedication to get permission for specific models for their individual country. Along with it comes ridiculous comments and demands ("can you guarantee you will sell the FD2R in the same numbers as the Accord 2.4 ?"), or often plain outright rejection ("sorry, Odyssey Absolute is reserved for Japan only"). I myself thinks a Fit RS Hybrid will inject a much needed new lease of life to the fledging Fit sales. Which rumour mag is this BTW ? I want to put this into "Honda Fan" blog.

It was one of the small format ones, forgot if BestCar or TopCar or Holiday Auto or … anyway, they are all pretty similar...

OK thanks. So far as I can see, the nearest in terms of artist rendition for 'scoops' is Mag-X.
Yeah, it seems to me that it would be a bit frustrating for you, Daniel, when this RS Hybrid comes out. Maybe if Honda Malaysia brings this RS Hybrid to Malaysia I might consider one. Assuming I have not already changed my current Jazz VTEC at that time.

I feel uneasy if the Fit RS Hybrid rumor is true, because what advantage the CR-Z has over the supposed Fit RS-H? Definitely not cargo space/utility/5 seat capacity... Perhaps driving dynamics as it is lower or lighter? I don't know, a Fit RS-H means the death of CR-Z to me. The offset of performance will be negligible in contrast of the exponentially increased utility. This is not Civic Si coupe and sedan analogy, the Civic Si sedan advantage over the coupe is its proper 2nd row, but even so, the coupe still respectfully sits 2 in the back. The CR-Z to Fit RS-H is just too much of an upgrade that makes the former much more uninteresting.

same as a cr-x in the good times of all. Personally I don't think there are many left among those that bought the CR-Z because of its powertrain and despite its lack of utility, and what to me doesn't make sense is keeping that beautiful powertrain an exclusive of a car with very limited appeal. The majority of people I know buying it actually got it because they wanted something distinctive, a beautiful coupe, and they sure would have never looked at a Fit. The majority of those i know doubting on whether to get one or not because of its reduced utility actually never bought it, and may be more than happy to get a Fit.
I said it before i had expected this drivetrain to become Honda's next RS, or at the very least hoped it'd be the case, i just didn't expect it to come before the MMC; Honda is truly moving fast nowadays...

I think it makes sense only if the CR-Z is coming with a brand new engine/hybrid system with better performance.

Oh I would take one immediately - but with MT and the proper rear suspension of the fit EV.
Honda about time to sell this car!
Drive train is done and the fit EV introduced IIRS, the 3 modes and other gadgets. The hybrid RS would recoup costs nicely.
Same effects with the small power diesel in the Jazz/Fit.
Honda surely long has a plan for the CRZ anyway - either ditching it or upgrading it so that doesn't really matter at this stage.
The Jazz/Fit hybrid was a major take on the insight in a few markets so maybe losing a few CRZ sales wouldn't hurt much.
I say maybe, because Honda has the icf thing in EU, the advanced IMA project is on its way and the CRZ still has a few years to go.

I think Daniel sees it the most accurately. What I can see is that the buyer segment for the CR-Z really doesn't overlap with the Fit RS Hybrid that much, if at all. They are really two different vehicles and designed to meet two different market segments and user requirements. If someone is actually cross shopping between a Fit RS Hybrid and CR-Z, I would say it is likely they don't fully understand their own requirement. Not to say there are no 'legitimate' cases like this but really, those CR-Z buyers I know, they really have not looked at the Fit/Jazz. At all. Assuming I have not been misled once again, we can be sure a 'hotter' version of the CR-Z is coming. So having this Fit RS Hybrid is a very sensible move. What I suspect is they will do the same thing as they did with the Insight - detune it to around 110ps and lean towards the fuel economy side of the compromise.
