Does anyone know what type of Manual Transmission Fluid I need to use? I can't seem to find the weight needed in my owners manual or on the web. A friend suggested that I use ATF, but I was going to go with 75W-90 gear oil. I'm planning on using a full synthetic either way, most likely Mobil 1.

Any suggestions?

Hi,
Hondas use Honda MTF or regular motor oil. The Honda MTF is a lot thinner than gear oil. I've read somewhere before that you're never supposed to use synthetic motor oil for Honda trannies but I could be mistaken. Also I've heard of people trying other MTFs such as Redline MTL but then the car don't shift as smooth as with Honda MTF. I would just stick with Honda MTF. Better safe than sorry right

75W-90?! that seems hella thick! i wouldn't use it. i agree with inline... use Honda MTF. or check the owner's manual and see what grades of motor oil they reccomend. i'm pretty sure it's going to suggest 10W-30 or 10W-40 for your car. i haven't heard anything about whether synthetic is bad or not, but i was thinking about using it my 89 Prelude when i flush the the tranny.

Dude whats up! You say u are a Honda Dealer... and you do not follow the Honda recommended fluids..

Use Honda brand Manual Trans Fluid ( MTF ) it has additives in it for the trans..

From what I've heard on here, I'm just going to stick with Honda MTL. I was going to go with Redline, but it seems people are either, 1.) afraid of not using Honda fluids, or 2.) speaking from experience when they've had bad things happen to their transmission after using Redline MTL.

Thanks for your advice.
