This is brief since I just got it home and haven't had a ton of seat time.

2012 Urban Titanium EX first impressions:

Interior:

The seats are more comfortable it seems, and the arm rest feels a bit more natural in position.

Steering wheel - Not as bad as feared, and really quite intuitive. The large round buttons aren't great, but they will do. I am interested to see how they wear.

The dash and gauges are really nice. I was actually a bit surprised at how nice. They could probably pass for gauges in a premium vehicle.

Bluetooth phone setup was cake...about 20 seconds or so. Sound was pretty good, but was a little muddy.

i-Mid - a little washed out and the resolution isn't the best, but the menus are easy to run through and make logical sense as to where you need to go. The radio looks fine in here as well, and does not look even close to as awful as the Civic.

Audio sounds like it has more punch than my 2010, but I haven't messed with it.

Center stack - HUGE improvement in my opinion. The center console storage area is cavernous, and the return of the sliding cover pleases me. The cupholders are untested, so more on that in the future.

The rear hatch opens very smooth and the fold down seat levers are really a nice touch.

Drive:

Not much yet...only about 15 miles driven.

The power feels a bit more linear and feels like it comes on quicker than before, but I didn't really get on it since it is new. The transmission isn't hunting around, which is no surprise since the previous one didn't. The entire feel of the vehicle just seems like a step up from the previous generation (of which I have owned 2).

Anyway, those are just some quick thoughts I figured I would jot down.

I didn't have much highway time, so I don't have anything on that. Around town it was fine, but until I get it rolling I will not know.

Was this a new purchase or an extended test drive? My brother in law and sister are thinking of buying one (they have a previous version already) but need something with 4WD to replace the Accord since they live in the mountains.

You should see a pyschologist, or get a more time consuming career, or both.

I am not driving the CR-V...it is my wife's car. She wanted one now, so she went and got one.

The Crosstour does not look alright.

Again, my wife is the one who has the CR-V, not me. The only part I care about is the financial details, which passed.

Of course, now I will have to argue with someone who doesn't even know what "blackmail" means because my wife went and bought a car.

that's pretty funny because something similar happened with the 5th generation Prelude. When the first photos and tv commercials came out, I despised it. I mean, I was just shocked that Honda could have messed up the Prelude that much. But for some reason, I was compelled to drive one. At that point, I had been awaiting the release of the USDM DC2 Type R, and I had been getting increasingly impatient.

Well, in around November of 1996, I noticed my dealer had one in the showroom, and I popped by to check it out (I owned a '94 GS-R at the time). The salesguy talked me into a test drive, then about 2 hours later I was driving home in it. I didn't even bother waiting for the Type SH, which was still a couple months away from arrival. After driving it, I didn't even care how it looked. But after owning it for 2 or 3 years I came to appreciate and even like the 5th gen Prelude's styling.

As for the Crosstour, it's not far away from being a much better looking vehicle, IMHO. I guess the thing that bothers me the most is the proportion of the wheelbase (too short) to the overall length. And the "trying too hard" trucky front end and raised ride height. If they had made it a pure road car and trimmed those overhangs I think it would look much better. As it is, it doesn't bother me too much now - it just looks funny on that rollerskate wheelbase.

Jeff,

Somebody could probably argue that the 5G Prelude is just a downright UGLY car.

I don't think I could disagree with them on a certain level.

Except I have come to love its styling. It simply looks totally different from everything else in a way that makes it timeless.

It's like Fergie or something... it's simultaneously dogged-ass ugly but hot as hell.

I would be interested to hear your (or your wife's) impressions on highway wind noise. Especially since you've owned previous generations. I thought it was pretty noisy in my test drive, but maybe compared to older models it is better. I'm driving from an Accord and was hoping that the new CRV was going to be quieter than my six year old car.

Damn man, maybe you should stop talking like "we will" and "I will" when the one buying CR-Vs is her... makes it hard to follow for us non-native english speakers...

After seeing the 2012 in person, I came away with exactly the opposite opinion of the rear. Your parents apparently see what my wife and I did. Unless I am simply used to looking at the 2010 we have, there is something "wrong" with the back of the 2012, but it is something I cannot specifically identify.

The "wrong" with the back you could not identify is that the wheel gap and glaring hardware or was it the exposed front that you confused with the back? Maybe some black paint will "hide" the hardware better, or maybe you could remove it?
You could always mount bigger tires to reduce the wheel-gap.

Maybe some screen mesh will help the exposed front end or just a good old fashioned tarp will do the trick?

Add a plastic mesh on the front. I did the same mesh tihng on the front of my car (same big gap exposing the A/C condenser to rocks and birds and stuff).

Maybe add some insulation material on that wheel area.

The front exposure is really a potential problem given the stuff FiSH-Chan mentions.
