Jeff, could you offer anything on the differences between the Plug In Hybrid and the Two Motor Hybrid. Are they essentially the same thing except for a bigger battery and charging port or are they two different systems entirely?

based on the press release they issued during the tokyo motor show I believe It is the former. It sounds like the basic two motor hybrid architecture will serve the basic hybrid model (smaller battery, no port) as the plug-in (larger, costlier battery, 10-15 mi. Pure EV range and plug-in charging port)

OK, that's how I was reading it too. It makes the most sense, but sometimes they make it sound like could be different systems. This system has a 120 Kw motor which is 160 hp. Doesn't that sound like a lot of power? In a non-plugin, how much battery do you need for that kind of output? So many questions....

I don't quite get why they would do 2 hybrids unless it's almost solely to satisfy the govt/EPA cronies and heighten the fleets overall MPG numbers.
Didn't the last Accord hybrid sales...uhmm, shall we say, stink? Insight and CR-Z aren't exactly lighting up the sales charts either.
It just kind of baffles me that when people mention, "hey honda, Acura more in this case, where is your coupe, or why did you let the S2k die, or why not put a manual in "x" vehicle, or where's the "sport" model ?...that the typical answer seems to always be, well, that would only account for about 1-2% of sales (or some low number) and it's not worth pursuing. But yet, they will make 2 hybrids that will probably account for very little in sales. (sorry for the run-on)
I hate to think it's purely to satisfy the govt crew, but perhaps someone can explain?

Last Accord hybrid was more like an performance hybrid with not best in class fuel economy. The new Accord hybrid according to Honda would get better mpg than Camry '13 hybrid (I'm assuming they referred to the non-plugin hybrid).
I do think this gives it better competition to the Camry and Fusion hybrid and they do sell reasonably well. Although this hybrid model is at least 1 year away.
Plug-in model won't be high volume and I don't expect cheap either (Prius plug-in is $32K) but it gives them the experience and it will improve image.
New S2000, Prelude or RSX would be great but at least unlike Toyota they still offer the Accord coupe and manual options so it could be worse (except Toyota will sell the Scion FR-S).

I believe the new one they show only has a 1.5l engine, instead of a 2.0l/100kw before. So it would be 160hp + 109hp = 269hp for a hybrid Accord? Or this could be for Accura, TL or RL? Accord hybtid would be with a IMA? You have to be careful when JP honda people speak. They often mix up Accord and Accuras.

Honda said the ILX hybrid will get the 1.5l. Haven't heard anything about the Accord Hybrid but I would think it needs a bigger engine since it's probably larger and heavier than the ILX.
