Add in the Kia Sorento with the GDI motor.
2WD 22 / 32 / 25
4WD 21 / 29 / 24
CRV still has it beat on combined mpg for both 2WD and 4WD, but Kia (on paper) shows an edge for 2WD highway mpg.

Really, how many people buy these things in 2WD.I know I live in the snow belt, but really?

Looks like the 2WD is only 1mpg less than the accord combined. That is pretty impressive considering the added utility. Let's just hope they finally decide to ditch that small fuel tank.

Yeah, my dad has an '11 Equinox as a company car and he gets 21-22mpg while he gets 31-32 on his '08 TL. That 6AT is tuned for the EPA city cycle test.

I brought this up in another posting, so I apologize for the double post. I'd be curious to see the 13 Escape numbers with the 1.6 Ecoboost vs the CRV. Ford claims the 1.6 Ecoboost economy will be better than the 12 Hybrid.
Not blasting Honda here, but I am curious how it all pans out.

No need for 4WD in the south or west. That's just a drag on efficiency. But when we had our RX350 and had to get the tires rotated when in Canada, the dealer was dumbfounded that a 2WD RX350 existed. (I had insisted on a 5-tire rotation, per the manual for 2WD.)
But if you live in the north, 4WD is essential.
Here's hoping for a successful launch of the CRV. All you sales guys, c'mon, get after it. We're a few years away from needing such a vehicle, but we're keeping an open mind. (Spoiled by the Crosstour and its impeccable highway manners. Sorry)

They are good and competitive, amazing, well, no. The Odyssey gets 28 HWY, has 50+ more ponies and weighs 1K more. I really like this new CRV the only thing that will spoil it is if they crap the interior like they did on the civic,

Good question. Is there an answer from one of the dealer sales people around here?
I mostly see 2WD versions here in Illinois, but we are not in deep snow country. Less money and better MPG is a pretty good incentive.

Nor Cal - 66% 4wd
So Cal - 60% 2wd

Not sure of our exact sales numbers here but currently have 86 CR-Vs on the lot, 76 are 2WD and 10 are 4WD. This is a huge increase over a couple of years ago. Had to go on dealer trades to Oklahoma City three times to get 4WD CR-Vs (and a Pilot). There wasn't a 4WD available in the state.

FWIW, have 40 Pilots in stock, 33 2WD, 7 AWD so close to same percentage as CR-Vs.
Pilot: 83% 2WD
CR-V 88% 2WD
I'm in the DFW metroplex by the way.
Sorry about the double post above, computer is whacked, said I had an error and to resend.

Thanks for the posts. Those percentages are about what I would have guessed. It really depends on where you live. Here in Central Illinois, there are maybe 2-4 days a year where 4WD would be very useful, and perhaps 10-15 more where it might help a little. I'd probably opt for 2WD, and save the money (both initial price, and fuel).
That said, the reports are that the 2012 CRV has a much improved AWD system, and we'll have to wait for in depth reports on how much it improves wet and dry road handling.
