Spring/Shocks Basics

Last Updated: 04/21/97

Spring/Shock Basics

If you put on stiffer springs on the stock shocks, the weaker damping rate of the stock shocks would not be able to handle the oscillation of the new spring. This will cause the car to bounce. Also you should rarely ever cut the springs unless you know what the consequences are. Lastly, if you are going to get those super stiff and low race springs, make sure you get a correspondingly good shock to be able to handle those springs. You'll have to get at least the Tokico Illuminas. The normal non-adjustable Tokico can not handle race springs.

Neuspeed/H&R

Neuspeed Race/Sport Springs - $200 per set All the Neuspeed springs are called "Sport" springs. They come in three levels as described below.

Sport Level versus Stock springs Left is Rear H&R, Middle is Front H&R, Right is Front Stock

Eibach

From: Tuan Nguyen
I installed the Eibach Pro-kits on a '95 GS-R with the stock shocks. The springs fit nicely and installed with no problems. These springs dropped the car by about 1.5" by my estimates even though they are rated at a 1" drop. I didn't get a chance to measure them, but they looked definitely higher than my 1.75" drop Hot Honda springs.

I didn't get a chance to drive the car, but did get to ride in it. I can tell you that the ride was still remarkably good. It was much softer and smoother than my GAB/H&R Sport combination. Since I didn't drive the car, I will not make any comments about the handling. The driver did mention they he felt much improved response from the stock springs.
